My FirstFondo & My NextFondo introduces...

How did you get into cycling?

I’ve always loved cycling, since I was a young girl tagging along with my older brother and his friends on our BMX bikes. I’ve also always ridden bikes for fitness and transportation; I honestly can’t ever remember NOT having a bike. After university, I worked in the film industry for years but then fell in love with downhill mountain biking.  Like many a love story, I left everything and ran away to start a new life…with my bike. I began a women’s bike company and riding company, Muddbunnies Riding Inc, that I stayed involved with for 7 years. While building my first company, I began managing in bicycle retail and soon after began coaching. I have ridden and raced everything from downhill mountain biking, XC, 4X, trials, cyclocross, endurance road, triathlon, fat biking, and as of recent I have become obsessed with bike-packing and off-road touring.

How much and what type of riding do you do?

I run a bike shop and bicycle museum in New Westminster and I find it important to stay fit through cycling and remain up-to-date on the latest industry trends. I’m literally always on my bike or in the shop.

What are you looking forward to about My NextFondo?

I'm looking forward to helping people smash their goals and ride a faster, harder pace! I'm excited to fine-tune technique and help push athletes into the next level.

What should people expect from your clinic?

Whether it’s your first or next fondo, I’ll guide you to experience a better you on two wheels. My athletes are given an atmosphere of kindness, compassion, and a ridiculous amount of enthusiasm. Plus, I also have an endless supply of “dad jokes” and I believe FUN is synonymous with cycling!

Describe RBC GranFondo Whistler in your own words.

The experience of two wheels and self-propelled motion can mute the stress of every day life or allow us to hit the pause button for a few hours. Then when you add the stunning, local scenery that at times we take for granted, you’ve literally transported yourself to a place of Zen. During the next hours, you will be in awe from the beauty of the west coast and you will be overwhelmed by the comradery and kindness that you feel from your fellow athletes and locals cheering you. This ride is for you. You’ve worked for this, you deserve this and this moment is yours.

The RBC GranFondo attracts every rider: young, old, novice and elite. In the 7 years since its inception its been possible for a cyclist to progress from novice to even professional and take home the $10,000 cash prize. Then three years ago former program coordinator, Kimberly Allen worked with Neil McKinnon on providing equal prize money to both female and male athletes. This speaks volumes about the positive effect this event is having on not only the local community but the international cycling scene as well. I am incredibly proud to be a part of the coaching team and I look forward to meeting the next group of tomorrow's athletes.

How did you get into cycling?

I started with multi-sport after watching Mike Pigg riding up The Beast in the St. Croix Triathlon when I was in my mid-teens. I transitioned to cycling when the local duathlon scene began to fade and my weak swimming skills were apparent.

How much and what type of riding do you do?

I ride about nine hours each week. This varies depending on my schedule and responsibilities. Most of the time is spent on the road, but I get on the trails occasionally. In the fall, I am almost exclusively on my cyclocross bike in training and competition.

What are you looking forward to about the group rides?

Sharing time and my years of experience with people who are seeking the freedom, thrill, and health benefits of cycling.

What should people expect from your group rides?

I aim to provide a safe environment where cyclists can network to discover new skills, riding partners, interesting routes, and/or improved fitness.

Describe RBC GranFondo Whistler in your own words.

RBC GranFondo Whistler is an epic event that provides a safe and scenic backdrop for people to overcome their own personal challenge. This could be in the form of a first time completion of the event, a personal best time, encouraging a friend or family member to reach their goal, as part of a collection of events particpated in, as an ambassador of your community welcoming visitors from near and far, or many other spirit-lifting reasons that make this such an inspiring event to be part of.

How did you get into cycling?

I have been riding for as long as I can remember when I used to cycle around various campgrounds with my siblings and father. We would race and challenge each other all summer on the street or in the forested trails; I couldn't get enough of it! The ever changing landscape of cycling and endless challenges, laughs, and good times that made me get into cycling has had me hooked ever since and pushes my own -GOOD TIMES METER- to max.

How much and what type of riding do you do?

I ride A LOT: about 10 rides a week or more. I commute to work, mountain bike regularly and ride road bikes whenever I can. I can safely say my day-to-day life has cycling in it somewhere. In the last 2 years I have ridden about 10000 km each year and I hope to eclipse that distance this year. I have raced competitively in mountain biking mostly doing races such as the Test of Metal, BC Bike Race, and multiple 24 hour races to name but a few.

What are you looking forward to about My FirstFondo?

What I look forward to most with My FirstFondo is meeting new people and helping them gain skills and knowledge to have as much fun on a bike as I do.

What should people expect from your My FirstFondo clinic?

When you take my clinic, I hope to provide a fun environment that will help riders conquer their challenges, become safe and confident on a bike, and enjoy the challenges that the RBC GranFondo Whistler presents. I want to do my best to show everyone how cycling is so fun to me. Through 12 weeks of riding with me I hope to answer every question you have, and prepare you to enjoy the challenges of taking on #thefondo.

Describe RBC GranFondo Whistler in your own words.

To me the RBC GranFondo Whistler is the riding event of the year! When else do you get to ride on a closed highway that winds itself along the coast and up to the beautiful city of Whistler? To ride this beautiful highway with a traffic free road is a ride unlike any other. When you're done the ride you get to hang out and celebrate with thousands of fellow finishers at Celebration Plaza, which is an amazing experience to be a part of. I cant wait to do it again! This epic event will have you talking about it for months with friends and family!
